DNS (Domain Name Service) — a mechanism used on the Internet to map numerical IP addresses to textual names. Whenever domain information is received from the DNS server, it is cached on the local computer for later use. DNS caching on the local computer provides quick access to any domain and reduces the load on the DNS server by reducing the number of accesses to it. However, caching also has disadvantages, which translates into the impossibility of opening a site when changing the IP address that the domain name refers to. This problem becomes apparent if the site is easily loaded by using a proxy server. When a similar problem occurs, one way to solve it is to clear the DNS cache on the local computer.

To clear the DNS cache in Windows XP, Vista, Win 7, 8, 8.1, 10 follow the following instructions:

1. Click combination "WIN+R".
2. In the window that appears, enter "cmd".
3. A command shell should appear in the form of a black window, enter "ipconfig /flushdns".
4. After which they will write to you - "DNS co-host cache flushed successfully".

If in response you see a message «Cannot clear DNS resolver cache: Function execution error» («Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache: Function failed during execution»), it means your DNS client service is disabled (DNS Client).
